Coach Ray is a product of Cook Counth Schools. After graduating from Valdosta State University he began teaching in Hawkinsville where he was an assistant football coach, head wrestling coach, and assistant baseball coach for two seasons at Hawkinsville High School. Coach Ray teaches physical education at Cook High School. He also coaches the CHS Lady Hornets Fastpitch softball team.

Coach Ray is the first girls softball coach to be named Head Coach of the South All-Star Team and has been the South All Star Coordinator for the Georgia Dugout Club for the last 6 years. His teams have compiled an overall record of 280-119. The CHS Lady Hornets won the Region Championship in 2001,2002,2009,2011,and2012 were AA/AAA state runner-up in 2001, and finished third in the state in 2002 and 2009. They were also Region runner-up in 2004, 2005, 2006,2007 and 2008.  He was also named Area 1AA Softball Coach of the Year for 2001-2002, 2002-2003. 2003-2004, 2009,2001,2012 and was named AA Coach of the Year for 2001-2002. He is currently serving as Vice President of the Georgia Dugout Club. He did equally well in his wrestling tenure at CHS. His team achieved an overall dual record of 90-30, 5 Area Championships, 1 Area Runner-up, 3 Area Duals Championships, three 3rd place finishes at AA State, and 8 individual state champions. Coach Ray was named Area 1AA Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002,2010-2011 and 2011-2012.

Coach Ray and his wife, Melanie, have three children: Chris, Savannah, and Maggie.
